Braidwood Cemetery

To many citizens, Braidwood Cemetery is one of the most terrifying places in all of Purgatory. The eerie silence that hangs over it, broken only by the whispering wind, has earned it a reputation as a place best avoided after sunset. The strange thing about it is that there are only seven tombstones, all standing in a perfect line in the center of a vast, overgrown field. Out of the seven that were present, only three of the stones had names that were readable: Caleb Fonsworth, Sarah Glasper, and Smitty Weberson. The rest of the stones bear no names and no one has any idea of who they might be. What could be seen on the stones however, are ancient, cryptic symbols etched into weathered granite. One of the main reasons behind this peculiar scene is that proper burials have become increasingly rare under the oppressive rule of The Wolfhounds. Once, Braidwood was a small, lively town with cemeteries filled with familiar names and stories. But the Wolfhounds, a brutal military-like regime ...

The Birth of Malachi

In the year of 2048, during the development of the place that would soon become Purgatory, humanity was holding on to life by a tiny thread. The world as they knew it had been completely obliterated from the Atomic Holocaust and the climate changes that followed. There were shelters filled with residents that were yearning for a return to the old days. Some people were forced to live in shacks due to the sudden increase in population in town. One such individual was a pregnant woman named Sarah. Sarah had unfortunately lost her husband due to a heated dispute with a crime lord and his lackeys. In her current situation, Sarah was running low on rations. On top of that, the water and electricity didn't work properly in her shack. Although the odds of survival wasn't in her favor, Sarah was determined to have this child. What she didn't know, however, was that she was about to give birth to a whole new brand of evil. On a dark, stormy night, Sarah woke up from a nightmare havin...

The Shallow Horrors

The Shallow Horrors are a race of doll sized Cthulhu-like beings that exist way beyond our plane of reality. They themselves have claimed to be descendants of the powerful Eldritch deity though that remains unproven. These creatures have observed the events of human history for many millenniums with both intrigue and disgust. They do not watch from the void between stars, but from the shallow spaces between objects: the gap between a floorboard and the carpet, the darkness behind a bookshelf, the silent world beneath a sink. Their "disgust" is not for human cruelty, but for our profound, wasteful depth. We live in three sprawling dimensions; they perceive a thousand subtle, folded ones in the same space. Our wars and cathedrals are to them like a man obsessively painting a single, grotesque mural on the only door out of a vast and glorious mansion. The Atomic Holocaust was, to the Shallow Horrors, not a tragedy but an invitation. The thinning of the human herd, the silencing ...

Moulds Asylum

Deep in the underbelly of the ruined city, where the skeletal remains of skyscrapers stretch toward the oppressive, bruise-colored sky, stands Moulds Asylum—an ominous, decaying monolith of horror and despair. Its once pristine white walls are now stained with the black grime of neglect, the paint peeling and warped by years of acid rain and exposure to the toxic atmosphere. Towering spires, once symbols of hope or sanctuary, now resemble broken claws reaching skyward, jagged and twisted from storms and neglect. The origins of Moulds Asylum are shrouded in darkness and blood. Rumor has it that it was originally constructed during the early days of society’s collapse, designed as a hospital in order to treat patients who were mildly affected from the radiation or perhaps critically ill from other diseases. But as chaos spread and the city’s fabric tore apart, the hospital went through some drastic changes and became a refuge for the worst of the worst—those driven mad by the horrors of ...

All Hail Lux Nocturna! (Part 2)

Image
As the fragments of her former self dissolved into shimmering stardust, Genesis found herself reborn in a realm beyond understanding—a luminous tapestry of chaos and beauty. The cosmic vessel that she now embodied was a testament to the dark bargain that she stuck. She was living masterpiece stitched from the remnants of her humanity and the uncharted power gifted by the mysterious dark force. Yet, beneath the radiant veneer, whispers of her past and the shadows of her sacrifice still linger, hinting that her journey is far from over. As she regained consciousness, Genesis was startled by a large shadowy figure that stood before her. It only took mere seconds for her to realize that this was the thing that was responsible for her transformation. "Is... is it done? Am I… like you said I would be?" Genesis asked. The demon responded: "Not quite yet, little one. You are far from finished. What you see now is only the beginning—the birth of something new." "Is this...

All Hail Lux Nocturna! (Part 1)

Image
Genesis was born August 3, 2065 In the land of Purgatory, The Great Purge was in full effect and this poor little girl was caught in the middle of it. Her mother was a courtesan that worked at a temple located at the western region of the city. She would unfortunately succumb to her addiction to amphetamines only a few years after Genesis was born. Thus, the Wolfhounds decided to step in and place Genesis in one of the orphanages that are involuntarily ran by them. To say that Genesis had a rough time at the orphanage is a heavy understatement. She was routinely beaten by her superiors, locked in the basement cellar as punishment for making the simplest mistakes, and sometimes had to survive entire days without food and water. In midst of all the turmoil, she did have a few friends at the orphanage with one that bleakly stood out in particular. A young man named Billy, who was a few years older than Genesis, quickly became fond of her shy yet quirky personality. Whenever Billy was give...

The Atomic Holocaust

The Atomic Holocaust remains as one of, if not, the most devastating events to ever happen in human history. The nuclear firestorm had not only shattered cities but also shattered the very fabric of what it meant to be human—replacing hope with ash, life with decay, and tomorrow with an infinite, radioactive night. With the events that took place here, the earth's climate spiraled into chaos with stronger storms and droughts longer than expected. Despite what some conspiracy theorists believe, there were several factors that contributed to this catastrophic event. The cyber-attack, now dubbed " The Great Fracture ", crippled the global financial network on a monumental scale. Civilizations in the most vulnerable regions were blindsided by the societal collapse that resulted from this attack. Digital currencies disappeared overnight like magic while the traditional markets were left in utter ruins. Resource wars with major global powers had come to a head with threats of w...
